Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

Rheumatoid arthritis carries with it the possibility that it can reduce the quality of life for those who present with the symptoms. The fact is that it does afflict millions of people. The earliest rheumatoid arthritis symptoms for those suffering from this disease include redness and swelling of the small joints such as in the hands and feet of both sides of a person's body.

Rheumatoid arthritis should not be confused with osteoarthritis which also causes stiffness and pain around the joints. The difference with osteoarthritis is that it is caused by the wearing away of the cartilage which cushions the bones at the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis pain is the result of inflammation of the membranes that lubricate joints. While you might think that the painful symptoms would be enough, suffers of rheumatoid arthritis often develop lumps and nodules under the skin of the joints.

Even though there has been lots of research studying the common rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in efforts to help prevent it from getting worse, more research must be conducted. At the present time, doctors are limited to making the diagnosis after the initial symptoms present themselves.

Even though it is not fully understood what the cause of these symptoms are, the reasons for them are better known. Most believe that it is some form of auto-immune system disorder. The auto-immune system is the defense mechanism of the body which is in charge of destroying viruses and bacteria when they enter the body. If for some reason, this system is not working correctly it can turn on the body itself and cause inflammation, swelling and the joints to become stiff. Other body parts can be affected as well.

One of the less common symptoms presented by those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis is inflammation around the lining of the heart and lungs. Some people even experience inflammation of tear ducts and salivary glands. It even rarely causes inflammation of the lungs and blood vessels Even though the most recognizable rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are confined to the joints, these other systems can also be affected and may be more likely to appear if treatment is deferred.

Treatment options for the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are often focused on reducing pain and inflammation. The typical drugs used are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory which are known to cause unwanted side effects.

The intensity of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis vary from one time to the next. Even though drugs have been the favored treatment option, today there are some more natural treatments available that do not cause the same types of side effects.

If you could treat this debilitating disease with natural products that do not carry the same undesirable side effects that come with chemically based options wouldn't you give it a try?
