Are You Suffering from Gout?

One of the most painful forms of arthritis is gout. This occurs when the body has built up too much uric acid, however, not everyone who has high levels of uric acid develops gout. While it is very rare for children and young adults to experience gout, it is most common in men between the ages of 30 to 45, and in women between the ages of 55- 70.

Gout can cause sudden severe joint pain, sometimes with redness, swelling, and tenderness of the joint. For many people, the first attack of gout occurs in the big toe. The best way to identify a toe that has gout is to check the toe for soreness, redness, warmth and unexplained swelling.

Although the joints are the most commonly affected part of the body, other parts of the body can be affected as well. Kidney stones are often caused by the build up of Uric acid or urate crystals. These items can be deposited in the kidney or urinary tract, occasionally impairing kidney function.

People who live with gout can find that it is extremely burdensome and difficult. Living with gout can transform the simplest, everyday task into a challenging ordeal for many adults. Clinical studies focusing on treating gout has been an ongoing process for many researchers.

Scientists are currently studying which NSAIDS are the most effective for gout and analyzing new compounds to develop safe medicines which can lower the level of uric acid in the blood. Clinical research trials can lead to a better treatment process as well as a better understanding of gout and those who are diagnosed with gout.

Jean Brown Research, Utah's leading medical research organization for clinical research, will be conducting a clinical study to develop and test better treatments for gout. If you or someone who know suffers from gout, please contact Jean Brown Research online for more information on how to participate in the clinical study. Participants who are selected for this study will be compensated for their time and travel.
